Sneak Peek: InStyle Weddings Summer 2009
We were lucky enough to score the gorgeous Natasha Henstridge for our summer 2009 cover. Not only did the stunning actress, probably best known for her role in Species, show off four unexpected twists on bridal style, but she also dished on her engagement and wedding. Here are a few highlights:
How did he propose?
It was on my birthday in 2007. Darius, my fiance, surprised me with a trip to a meditation center in the Pacific Palisades—we were walking along this beautiful winding pathway, and he started talking about how the course of our relationship paralleled that path. Then he blindfolded me and said, "I have a surprise for you." He led me a bit farther, and when the blindfold came off, there were hundreds of candles set up everywhere and a stereo system. He sang a song he wrote called "All at Sea," and the lyrics themselves were a proposal. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes, and we kissed and cried—it was so romantic.
Tell us about the ring.
It's a vintage ring from the 1920s. It's from France, which is fitting since I think the base of the setting looks like the Eiffel Tower. The round diamond is just under 3 carats, and has a very unusual cut. I call it a kaleidoscope.
What type of wedding do you want?
We go with the flow. Maybe too much since we haven't actually planned ours yet. Scotland, Cabo, Napa—we just can't choose. We're leaning toward the beach with immediate family and friends. Afterward, we'll have a party in Newfoundland, where I'm from. Something really casual—like a lobster boil or boating on the ocean with my family. And then a Persian-themed bash in Scotland with his family—his father is Iranian.
What are you going to wear?
Will I be barefoot in a soft and flowy dress on the beach, or will we be in a chapel? I'm still torn. It takes courage to do what Gwen Stefani did, which was wear a pink ombré dress to her wedding. I'm trying to find a way to incorporate all of these elements into my bridal look: a classic dress that's not too pulled together. It has to be easy to move in and fun, light and whimsical. I like taking chances, but I don't want to look back in 20 years and say, "What was I thinking?"
The summer 2009 issue of InStyle Weddings is on newsstands tomorrow, so be sure to pick up a copy for more on Natasha and tons of celebrity wedding inspiration.
