Made for TV

October 10, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Winter07_rings6aMorning news shows always have feel-good stories, but a segment that appeared on Good Morning America today took the (wedding) cake. Emily Leonard, a local anchorwoman for an ABC News affiliate in Lubbock, Texas, received a marriage proposal on live television from her boyfriend, Matt Laubhan, the local CBS affiliate’s weatherman!

Leonard was in the middle of her broadcast, expecting a sports segment to run. To her surprise, though, her boyfriend of two and a half years appeared on screen with some “breaking news” instead. “Emily Leonard is not only the sweet, quirky, crazy girl that you watch every morning on this channel,” he said. “But she’s also the love of my life.”

Laubhan then appeared on his girlfriend’s set, ring in hand, and proposed. Leonard, of course, said yes. Check out the video here and then share your own proposal stories in our comments.

Jessica & In Style Weddings,

My sister found the story on In Style Weddings and passed it along to me. Thank you so much for sharing our story with others! This whole thing has been exciting and wonderful...not to mention surprising! I love Matt with all my heart and cannot wait to share my life with him. Now the hard part, planning a wedding! I've never done it before, and I'm not much of a planner so God willing we'll survive somehow! Again thank you so much!!

I just wanted to say that Matt Laubhan is a very lucky guy, and I can't understand why he'd wait 2-1/2 years to pop the question! Why Matt? Emily is such a sweet beauty, and definitely worth the effort of such an outrageous stunt. I pass along a link to the story in Britian's Daily Telegraph, where I am sure it will be read in all of Europe. Everyone will be saying how lucky Matt is, and who knows? Maybe they'll be a call for the two to go to Hollywood, and do something more interesting than local news.
